Beautiful enchanting dahlias chosen for you

For this post I have chosen some of my favourite dahlias, including some new varieties I have grown this year. Beautiful enchanting dahlias, one and all.

When autumn arrives, it is still fabulous to have so much colour in the garden. Such a boost for wellbeing.

And of course, the beautiful dahlia is often the star of the show in late summer and autumn, and this is true in my garden.

With over forty thousand varieties, there are so many choices for garden borders and pots.

So, I have chosen a few more to share with you out of the three hundred and fifty I have in my garden so far………….. and I find them all beautiful enchanting dahlias.

The beautiful enchanting dahlias start with a twist

Cafe Au Lait Twist

First for this post, Cafe Au Lait Twist. A recent introduction to the Cafe Au Lait series and what a stunner this one is.

Twist is a large dinner plate variety with slightly twisted petals; a good name then!

Each beautiful flower has different markings. The bloom above had me swooning with her dark pink left side and light pink and creamy raspberry ripple right side.

Besides the beauty above, flowers have been cream with rose pink or magenta stripes or just flushed with a pinky stripe on each petal.

Twist will reach a height of 120cm over time and each bloom is a whopping 20 to 25cm.

A fantastic new variety and a real stunner for the garden and vases and one of the most beautiful enchanting dahlias for me.

The dahlia called Pooh

Next, I have chosen a very different dahlia to Twist, an incredibly bright and zingy bloomer.

However, I wouldn’t plant the lovely dahlia called Pooh anywhere near the Twist. Too much of a colour clash for me! Both beautiful enchanting dahlias but they show their beauty in different parts of my garden.

Another new variety for my garden this year and a real eye catcher too.

Primarily planted in my garden for the pollinators, and the photo above shows how popular she is with the bees.

Just like Winnie the Pooh’s honey pot, this fabulous variety is an absolute bee-magnet! Perhaps that is where the name came from.

A collarette dahlia which has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit. Well done Pooh!

Pooh will reach a height of 75cm so ideal for pots and the flowers are around 5 to 10cm.

Additionally, a dahlia that has an abundance of flowers, often ten to fifteen at a time on my plants.

Another of the beautiful enchanting dahlias

Next, I have chosen a beautiful enchanting dahlia called Arthur Hambley.

Another stunning dinner plate variety which is new to my garden this year.

Each bloom is lilac pink with slightly darker markings along the petals.

However, as this beauty has been slow to bloom, I only have the one flower so far; photo above.

Clearly, Arthur needs to get a hop on and generate more blooms before the frosts come!

My dear friend, the Cosmos Queen, is also eagerly awaiting blooms on her Arthur H too. The post featuring some of her dahlias can be accessed below.

Arthur Hambley will reach a height of 120cm over time and the flowers are a whopping 20 to 25cm.

Dahlia David Howard

Next, I have chosen a dahlia that is named David Howard, but I call it Graham Thomas! I have no idea why, but I actually started to type Graham T under the photo and had to change it.

So, David Howard, (well done me!) is a famous small flowered decorative dahlia.

I love the burnt orange colour which gently fades over time.

Additionally, the fantastic dark purple foliage compliments the burnt orange so well.

Another dahlia awarded the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit. Well done Graham, whoops David!

Also suitable for pots, reaching a height of 90cm over time with flowers 10 to 12cm in size. The stems are quite thin, so I give each flower some support, especially when the weather is windy.

One of the fabulously beautiful enchanting dahlias to have in your garden, whatever you call it!

Dahlia Wishes n Dreams

Next, I have chosen Wishes n Dreams. A dwarf bedding dahlia, with bronze foliage and single flowers with a red centre, fading to soft pink towards the edge.

I grow this one in memory of my beautiful rescue chicken, Lovely Speckledy Hen. She passed away in June and she has this beautiful dahlia near her final resting place.

A beautiful dahlia for lifting the spirits and to remember a well loved, cheeky, border scratching, feathered companion.

Additionally, a fantastic dahlia for the pollinators, who flock to the many blooms I have on my plant.

Wishes n Dreams grows to a height of around 70cm and is suitable for a pot as well as the front of a garden border. The flowers are about 8cm in size.

Another dahlia I could not be without for many reasons and clearly one of the beautiful enchanting dahlias, worthy of this post .

The last of the beautiful enchanting dahlias

Finally, here is the fabulous Thomas A Edison. A superb dark purple dahlia which has an abundance of flowers throughout the season.

Another dinnerplate decorative dahlia which reliably starts flowering early and is only stopped by the frosts.

Also suitable for pots, reaching a height of 100cm over time with flowers 20cm in size.

Thomas A Edison is an heirloom variety, introduced in 1929 and a favourite with so many gardeners. Certainly, one of my all time favourites too.

Additionally, a favourite flower for the bumble bees to have a well deserved rest. I often find a bee tucked up between the petals. A couple of hours later they are latched onto Wishes n Dreams nearby for a feed.

Dahlias for the future

I absolutely adore dahlias and hope that this post gives a taster of some more varieties that you could grow.

They come in such a range of colours, sizes and shapes and many are good for pollinators too.

I mentioned at the start of this post, that I have three hundred and fifty in my garden.

Naturally, I am on the lookout for more. Perch Hill will be on my list. A subtle smoky crimson-pink-orange, exclusive to Sarah Raven.

Additionally, Lou Farman might well be coming to my garden too. Blooms opening a rich pink and fading elegantly with huge, open saucers, brilliant for all pollinators. Another exclusive to Sarah Raven and a must have for me, I think.

I have added the link below if you wish to check out some dahlia options.

    • Thanks for your comments. I think with over 40,000 varieties we might need a huge amount of borders with the wish lists we all compile each year 😍

Please leave a reply, that would be fabulous
